Homemade Candy Bars

chocolate peanut butter candy bar recipe

Imagine the most decadent candy bar fresh from the factory...these bars are even better. With chocolate, peanut butter, butterscotch and a mysterious crunch, this is a dessert that pleases everyone.

Candy Bars

1 c granulated sugar
1 c corn syrup
1 c + 1/2 c chunky peanut butter
6 c Special K cereal
12 oz chocolate chips
12 oz butterscotch chips

Mix sugar and corn syrup in a heavy saucepan over low heat. Stir until sugar dissolves. Add peanut butter and mix well.

In a large bowl, pour in the cereal. Pour in peanut butter mixture and combine.

In a buttered 9" x13" pan, add the cereal mix and pat firmly until it covers the pan evenly. Let cool.

In a heavy saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the chocolate and butterscotch chips, stirring constantly.  Pour over the cereal mix, let cool to room temperature and then cover and refrigerate until chocolate sets. Using a large, sharp chef's knife, cut into squares and serve at room temperature.
