We all know that a diet loaded with fresh fruits and vegetables is a must but must they be organic? Is buying organic really all that important? The answer, according to my nutritionist, is a resounding "yes". When buying organic produce 100% of the time is not possible, I like to refer to EWG's list of the dirty dozen - the fruits and vegetables that contain the most pesticides.
EWG's Dirty Dozen
(when buying organic is most important)
1. Apples
2. Celery
3. Sweet Bell Peppers
4. Peaches
5. Strawberries
6. Nectarines (imported)
7. Grapes
8. Spinach
9. Lettuce
10. Cucumbers
11. Blueberries (domestic)
12. Potatoes
* Not making the list but noted as potentially containing pesticide residues of special concern are Kale and Green Beans.
